    in review: King Spa and Sauna

    It was a day of sweating and relaxing at King Spa & Sauna. I had heard of a place in Dallas that was huge, with different kinds of sauna rooms, Jacuzzi, pools and Korean-style food. Oh, and it’s open 24 hours a day (i don’t want to know the clientele they have at 3am). Once a Groupon was out, I bought it along with my sisters, husband and brother-in-law and we all went one Saturday to experience it together. This was by far the most interesting experience I’ve had living in Dallas (except for maybe yoga on a surfboard, but I’ll talk about that in another post). We drove in through an arch…

    quirks

    Do you have any interesting quirks? I have way too many to note and I have nothing but love for the people who accept me in all my weirdness. Enjoy below: 1. I like the ends of brownies/pancakes and will sometimes just eat that. It’s the best part. Forget the soft center where the filling is, I like the ends. It’s the perfect amount of chewy and crispy. I once ate around an entire stack of pancakes while my husband and I were out to brunch. 2. I like to push down the top of the french press maker. Otherwise it’s just not worth it. Part of the awesomeness of the coffee…

    emotional currency

    I recently stumbled upon this article that talked about the art of emotional currency. I remember when Justin and I first started dating, one of the very first gifts he ever got me was a mixed CD that he made himself. It was one of the most thoughtful, sweet and prime examples of what I’m now adopting to be “emotional currency”. Let’s break down those two words: Currency relates to the use of money and Emotional relates to a feeling. Still with me? Ok good. So when I talk about the phrase “emotional currency”, it’s not something that is paid for in credit cards or dollar bills, but is thoughtfully…

    this valentine’s day

    Valentine’s Day is tomorrow, February 14th. I’m sure you have found tons of blogs that’ll show you a million DIY ideas, crafts, recipes and decor to celebrate the big day. I’m not going to do that. I once tried to unravel an “easy” pom made by Martha Stewart that ended up looking like a 4-year-old kid did it. I am not of the crafty folk, proved by the time I sewed one side of a double-sided ornament with needle and thread and was confused on how I was going to stuff the cotton balls inside. What I can talk about is the meaning of Valentine’s Day and what it means for…

    a wedding to remember

    Oh man this weekend came and went and I couldn’t have been part of a more beautiful wedding. My sister looked so happy and was smiling from ear to ear the entire night. She looked beautiful walking down the aisle (and didn’t cry!) at the amazing St. Thomas Aquinas church. My cousin from New York sang so beautifully it brought tears to my eyes. Then it was off to the Hotel Adolphus to get our dance on. The ballroom was full of bling and my sister never left the dance floor. With everything from old school hip hop, house music, salsa, Bollywood and of course Beyoncé, the dance floor was always crowded.…

    if i knew then what i know now…

    Sometimes it’s good to reflect. To think about how far you’ve come, what you’ve accomplished and what you have left to do in this life. Here are a few things I would tell myself if I knew then what I know now… 1. In choosing a career, think about what you’re drawn to. If it’s being creative, quit applying to jobs that have to do with math, spreadsheets and logistics (you hate that stuff remember?). You’ll find something you love and it’ll be your true calling. 2. Yoga is awesome, give it a try. 3. When you think a cleanse is a good idea, slap yourself in the face. A…

    holidays in california

    Hey guys! It was so great spending the holidays in California. Although it was my very first time being away from my family this year, the celebrations were wonderful. We did everything this girl could think of while visiting beautiful California including a day in Napa Valley, a Stanford basketball game followed by walking around downtown Palo Alto and sightseeing in downtown San Francisco (cable car, Lombard street, Union Square). Christmas Eve and Christmas Day was celebrated with family and I am overjoyed by the welcome I received while there. I’m telling you I have the best in-laws in the world 🙂 New Years Eve was fantastic and started with…

    a new year {2013}

    Can you believe it’s 2013?! How a year flies by! As my husband and I spent the holidays in California with his family, I couldn’t help but think back on the year and the major moments that made 2012 so special. Here are some of mine: 1. Attending Oprah’s Lifeclass in NYC (read about it here) 2. My husband and I’s 1 year anniversary 3. The career shift and decision to be a writer 4. My sister getting engaged   What moments made 2012 significant for you?   Now I’m not one for resolutions. Like everyone knows they stick for about a month at the most and then disappear. So instead…

    Bridal Shower Ideas

      Last month I shared a post about ideas on how to run a successful couples shower. Of course, with a couples shower comes a bridal shower, which we took part in this past weekend. Now my mom is the queen of parties and she throws some seriously good ones. With the experience of already hosting mine almost 2 years ago, this was going to be good. She hosted the shower at my parents house and the space couldn’t have been better. The color scheme included hues of royal purple, white, saffron and fuchsia which will be her wedding colors. Tables and chairs were rented out and took up the…

    thanksgiving 2012

    Thanksgiving 2012 has come and gone. Another year of sweet potato casserole, turkey, ham and pumpkin pie arrived in full force in a leave no prisoners kind of way. This year was especially important for me personally. With so many life changers, I am grateful for the opportunity to be in the creative space, my friends and family and my supportive husband. I give thanks for all the blessings this year and look forward to the blessings of the year to come. Here are some pictures from our Thanksgiving at home. Hope everyone had a great holiday!
