what’s your personality type?
Do you know what your personality type is? I remember taking the Myers Briggs test in high school and was fascinated with how accurate it was. Introvert/Extrovert, Intuitive/Sensing, Thinker/Feeler, Judger/Prospector, they all shape how we interact with the everyday.
As a senior in high school, going through college applications and figuring out what I wanted to do with the rest of my life, I decided I wanted to be a child psychiatrist. That dream lasted about a year, when my first chemistry class kicked my ass and I got my first “yeah, no you’re not going to do that” sign. I knew I was fascinated with the human mind (and still am) and how it shapes the way people interact with the world, but working with logistics, data, facts and numbers just weren’t my thing.
I hadn’t thought about that until this Thanksgiving, when the subject was brought up in conversation. I went online and took this test, curious to see if I was still the same.
When I took the class back then, I was an INFP (introvert, intuitive, feeler and prospector). The career choices for those with my type (which is apparently only about 5% of the population), were those of service- psychologists, social workers, etc.)
After taking it again, I was surprised to find that I am still that type, INFP. People with this type are creative and imaginative. Along with psychologists, counselors and teachers, the personality is said to be a great fit for writers, as they can be great storytellers. Interesting don’t you think?
So I’m curious, have you taken a personality test? Were you surprised with the results or did you think it was spot on? Another test I would recommend is Strengths Finder. I own that book and one of these days I’ll get to taking that personality test. In the meantime, I’ll write.
