another year, a new journey
I turned yet another year in my 30’s this past weekend. Yep, I’ve given up the fact that I’m young. It’s all downhill (or should I say uphill) from here. At least I’ll be moving up the age ladder with a good pair of Coach sunglasses.
The weeks leading up to my birthday I had a couple of ideas of what I wanted to do. At first I thought a cool tradition would be to go out-of-town this weekend and explore a new city. That plan didn’t pan out so I got the next best thing- brunch with the family and dinner with friends. It actually turned out to be the perfect birthday this girl could have.
My parents came in from Houston which made me SO happy to celebrate the day with them. It doesn’t happen often them being in another city, so to have them drive up made the day that much more meaningful. Brunch with the parents at Komali was followed by a massage at Bliss Spa and later dinner at Del Friscos Grille. Not a bad dining day huh?
I have to say that the most meaningful part of that day was opening up the gift that my sisters Vanessa and Natalia and good friend Vanessa (Vanessa G that is) gave me. It’s got to be one of the most thoughtful gifts I have ever received. I opened up a gift bag to reveal books on freelance writing, a journal and a ticket to a blogging boot camp. Pretty amazing.
That gift had so much meaning. It means I have a strong support system. I have people in my life that know this is the right path for me. I have people who are rooting for me to succeed. It just warms my heart and fills it with so much happiness.
As another year in my 30’s passes, I am realizing that this is a big year for me. This is the year that I get to prove myself. This is the year I get to do what I love, on my own terms, to live life to my fullest in my own unique way. It’s going to be a good one.
As my sister Natalia says, cheers to the new Carrie Bradshaw. Thanks for all of your support, love and happiness. I am so excited to share this journey with you (and it’s good I’ve got a Sephora gift card as well for “research”).
