austin city limits festival 2012
“There’s nothing to compare to live music, there just isn’t anything.”- Gloria Gaynor
The Austin City Limits Festival (ACL) was this past weekend. A 3 day outdoor October event in Zilker Park featuring big bands like Red Hot Chili Peppers, Florence and the Machine and Gotye. It’s packed with music for everyone country, rock ‘n roll, hip hop, electronic, indie and everything in between. People of all ages gather for one thing and one thing only: live music.
This is my second year to go and I have to tell you that the coolest part of going to one of these events is hearing a new band solely by chance and it becoming a new favorite. Last year it was Passion Pit and this year was Big Gigantic. The story is the same: middle of the day, rain starts to pour, you’re drenched and all of a sudden the next band to play is leaving it all on the stage and putting on the best show. Big Gigantic, a band I’ve never heard before this weekend, is a DJ that comes with its own band including an awesome sax player. With the rain pouring down, Big Gigantic was playing music that made you want to dance and forget the weather. It’s those moments that make it all worth it.
Aside from that…
Red Hot Chili Peppers was INCREDIBLE
Avicii KILLED IT
M83’s “Midnight City” will remain one of my favorite songs played live (sax player is amazing)
Here’s to another year 🙂
