basic beauty in 5 steps
It’s amazing how little men know about women. Like giving a women 5 minutes to get ready, or telling her that we have to leave “now” or we’ll miss the appointment/tour/bus/cab.
Basic beauty is where it’s at. It’s simple, doesn’t take a lot of time, and makes you feel like singing “I woke up like this” after you’re done. No, it doesn’t take 5 minutes (no need to set unrealistic expectations), but it will get you out of the house looking beautiful.
Here’s how to do it:
Step 1: use a BB cream instead of foundation. It moisturizes, evens skin tone and provides coverage all in one. I’ve been using the Garnier BB Cream lately, but the L’Oreal one is good as well.
Step 2: use a cream blush for staying powder and a pretty “dewy” look. Sure you can swipe some powder blush on if you’d like, but I’ve found that cream blushes stay on the longest (for those “last-minute” errands to be done). Stila’s is my favorite.
Step 3: eye primer + shadow is your best bet to avoid creasing as well as give a nice natural shimmer. Two Faced has one that my mom actually introduced me to and I love it. For a straight cream shadow, I love Maybelline’s cream shadows (Bad to the Bronze).
Step 4: find a mascara that really does what your lashes need most. For me, it’s curl. Maybelline’s The Falsies have been my pick for curl and when used with an eyelash curler, gives me the results I want. *tip: I don’t use waterproof mascara because it damages my lashes, so I’ll use it on my bottom lashes if I need staying power sans streaking.
Step 5: a tinted lip balm will give you moisture and a pop of color. Win/win for you and the person who keeps telling you to “hurry up”. You can also put this on in the car and keep in your purse for easy touch-ups. I have a strong hatred towards lip balms that taste and smell like rubber, so I go for the flavored/minty ones like baby lips or Origins lip color.
So there you have it, basic beauty in less than 10 minutes. Done and done.
